A right royal role set in Joss Stone

SITTING in loose, hippie garb, far removed from the tight costume constraints attached to her royal role in The Tudors, Joss Stone has one thing on her mind.

“I don’t ming … do I?” inquires the petite chanteuse-turned-actress.

The answer, quite simply, is no. Stone’s decision to question her looks (to “ming” is UK speak for ugly) may seem unusual but, in context, is more than valid.

Stone has joined The Tudors (series three debuts this week) as Anne of Cleves, a queen ultimately rejected by Henry VIII because of her plain looks.

“Yeah, look, obviously I can play a minger really well,” Stone says, speaking exclusively to Insider.

“To me, it didn’t really matter what role I got. I just wanted to be part of it. It’s a brilliant series, with excellent actors.”

Stone, 22 – who shot to fame in 2003 as a singer with a mature and soulful sound that belied her then 16 years – said her decision to try acting was born out of fun.

‘”I don’t like to take it too seriously. I just roll with the punches and just do whatever comes up,” she says.

She was adamant however that music remained her strongest passion.
